The Parish Development Model (PDM) continues to make a meaningful impact in Fort Portal City, with beneficiaries reporting significant improvements in their livelihoods through strategic investments and increased household incomes.
In Njara Ward, the story of Nyakato Salmah stands out as a clear example of how the government initiative is creating economic opportunities at the grassroots level. Two years ago, Nyakato received PDM funds, which she invested in purchasing a calf. What began as a modest investment has since grown into a reliable source of income for her family.
Through proper care and dedication, the calf matured and started producing milk, enabling Nyakato to venture into dairy farming. Today, she earns a steady income from milk sales, improving her family’s welfare and strengthening her financial stability.
“The support I received through PDM changed my life,” Nyakato said. “Before, I struggled to meet basic needs, but now I have a regular source of income and can invest in other farming activities.”
Her success story was highlighted during a monitoring visit by Fort Portal City ONC Coordinator Shamim Kabasinguzi, who toured the area to assess the impact of the Parish Development Model on beneficiaries. She commended Nyakato for effectively utilizing the funds and noted that similar success stories are emerging across the city.
According to Ms. Kabasinguzi, the Parish Development Model is helping households transition from subsistence living to income-generating enterprises, thereby improving economic resilience and reducing poverty in communities.
As more beneficiaries embrace productive investments, the program continues to demonstrate its potential to transform lives, create sustainable livelihoods, and drive community development throughout Fort Portal City.
