KAMPALA — Musician Irene Namatovu has opened up about what she describes as one of the most traumatic experiences in her life, alleging that her son narrowly escaped a suspected poisoning incident in the days leading up to her customary introduction ceremony with fellow singer Geoffrey Lutaaya.
Speaking about the challenges she faced after her relationship with Lutaaya became public, Namatovu said she encountered strong opposition from individuals who did not support their marriage.
According to the singer, the incident occurred about a week before her *Kwanjula* ceremony when a boda boda rider reportedly delivered a package of chicken *luwombo* to her home, claiming it had been sent by her for her son, Pius.
Namatovu said her housemaid later informed her that the boy had declined to eat the meal after returning from football practice, despite usually having a healthy appetite.
Concerned by the unexpected delivery, she said she contacted family members and other people who might have sent the food, only to discover that none of them had any knowledge of it.
She alleged that the family later suspected the meal had been poisoned after placing it outside overnight, claiming that animals which came into contact with it were found dead the following morning.
Namatovu described the incident as a turning point in her life, saying she believes her son’s refusal to eat the food saved his life.
The singer also alleged that on the day of her introduction ceremony, another woman attempted to disrupt the function but was intercepted and removed before causing any disturbance.
She further claimed that after her marriage, she experienced repeated harassment from strangers who would visit her home to insult her, prompting her to strengthen security around her residence.
Reflecting on the experience, Namatovu said marriage has presented significant challenges but credited her faith and resilience for helping her overcome difficult moments.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and no official police investigation into the reported incidents was immediately available.
