President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has moved to reshape the leadership of Judiciary of Uganda with the appointment of Justice Moses Kaziibwe Kawumi as Deputy Chief Justice and Her Worship Agnes Alum as Chief Registrar.
The appointments, announced Thursday by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), mark a significant step in ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s judicial administration and improve court efficiency.
Justice Kawumi’s nomination has already been submitted to Parliament for vetting and approval, as required under Uganda’s constitutional procedures. If approved, he will assume one of the Judiciary’s most influential offices, overseeing the administration of the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court while supporting broader judicial management.
At the same time, Agnes Alum has been appointed Chief Registrar, a position central to the day-to-day running of courts across the country. The office is responsible for coordinating court operations, managing judicial staff, and ensuring smooth case administration nationwide.
The latest appointments come amid growing public focus on judicial reforms, case backlog management, and the need for stronger institutional leadership within Uganda’s justice system.
Parliament is expected to begin the vetting process for Justice Kawumi in the coming days, with more details about the transition anticipated from both the Executive and the Judiciary.
