The upcoming Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Birthday Run is shaping up as one of Uganda’s largest charity mobilisation events, with fresh backing from high-profile leaders adding momentum to its cause.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has injected Shs100 million into the initiative, underscoring a broader shift among public figures toward using celebratory events to address social challenges. The funds, raised through Bukedea Comprehensive Schools, will contribute to efforts supporting vulnerable children, particularly those in baby homes and similar care programmes.
Scheduled for April 26, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds, the annual run—organised by the Patriotic League of Uganda alongside the Patriots Club—has evolved beyond a birthday celebration into a national platform for charity, fitness, and civic engagement.
This year’s theme, “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” reflects a growing emphasis on collective action to support disadvantaged communities. Organisers expect tens of thousands of participants, signalling strong public interest in initiatives that combine social impact with community participation.
Among framed her contribution as part of a wider commitment to education and welfare, noting that hundreds of underprivileged students are already benefiting from scholarship support linked to her initiatives. Her remarks also highlighted a trend among political leaders aligning themselves with grassroots programmes that directly impact vulnerable populations.
The event is closely associated with Muhoozi Kainerugaba, whose birthday run has, in recent years, become a major mobilisation tool attracting corporate sponsors, institutions, and individual participants alike.
Beyond the fundraising effort, the run continues to serve as a unifying public event, blending patriotism and social responsibility. Authorities have confirmed that security and traffic measures are in place to manage the expected large crowds.
