State House has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media alleging that President Yoweri Museveni ordered an urgent investigation into the citizenship status of four newly appointed ministers.
The document, dated May 28, 2026, claimed that the President had directed the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control to verify whether Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Calvin Echodu, Dr Lawrence Muganga and businessman Sanjay Tana held citizenship of countries other than Uganda, which could affect their eligibility to serve in Cabinet.
According to the letter, the alleged directive followed intelligence reports that raised questions about the nationality of the four officials, all of whom were recently appointed to ministerial positions in Museveni’s new government.
However, State House has categorically denied the authenticity of the document. Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda said the letter was not authored by President Museveni and should be treated as a forgery.
The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in the President’s latest Cabinet appointments, which saw several new faces enter government while a number of former ministers were dropped or reassigned.
Among those affected by the false claims is Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, who was recently appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs after serving as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Calvin Echodu was named Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Dr Lawrence Muganga was appointed Minister of State for Internal Affairs. Businessman Sanjay Tana was appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
State House urged the public to disregard the circulating letter and rely on official communication channels for information regarding government appointments and presidential directives.
