Uganda’s anti-corruption watchdog, the Inspectorate of Government, has intensified its efforts to curb misuse of public resources with the arrest of three individuals linked to an allegedly незаконный animal market operation in Nwoya District.
Among those arrested is Chief Administrative Officer Nantume Janephar Egunyu, whose position placed her at the center of district governance and oversight. Authorities accuse her of bypassing official procedures and authorizing the operation of an unregulated animal market in Gotokwara Village between 2023 and 2024. Investigators say these actions not only violated administrative guidelines but also compromised the district’s financial interests.
The case also implicates two private individuals—Fred Kalisa, a local farmer, and Ronald Wanda, a businessman—who allegedly managed the disputed market. Prosecutors claim the pair diverted over Shs20.6 million in revenue that should have been remitted to the district.
All three suspects are expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court on April 28, 2026, where they will formally respond to charges of abuse of office and theft.
The incident highlights growing concerns about revenue leakages in local governments and underscores the IG’s ongoing campaign to enforce accountability. Officials say such enforcement actions are critical in restoring public trust and ensuring that district-level resources are managed transparently and in accordance with the law.
If found guilty, the accused could face significant legal penalties under Uganda’s anti-corruption framework, reinforcing the government’s message that misuse of public office will not
go unpunished..
