What began as an effort to save a troubled marriage ended in public humiliation and a leadership crisis for one of Lyantonde’s prominent church ministries.
Holy Gospel Deliverance Ministries in Lyantonde town has been thrown into turmoil after Bishop Abdul Mugisha and his wife, Pastor Mercy Mugisha, openly traded accusations of adultery, violence and betrayal during a tense mediation meeting attended by church members and local leaders.
The emergency gathering, held at the couple’s residence in Kaliro ward, was intended to resolve growing disputes that had reportedly been affecting both their marriage and church operations. Instead, it exposed deep divisions within the family and the ministry they jointly lead.
During the heated meeting, Bishop Mugisha accused his wife of maintaining a secret relationship with another man and allegedly conceiving twins outside their marriage. In a dramatic response, Pastor Mercy admitted that the twins were fathered by her former boyfriend but claimed the bishop had previously agreed to the arrangement.
The accusations quickly escalated beyond infidelity claims. Bishop Mugisha further alleged that he had been assaulted and forcibly chased from his home by his wife and security guards attached to the family residence.
As tensions intensified, concerned church members and community leaders intervened, ordering both religious leaders to temporarily step away from managing the church to allow investigations and reconciliation efforts to take place.
The scandal has since sparked widespread debate in Lyantonde over accountability among religious leaders and the impact of personal conflicts on faith communities.
