Residents of Nagondo B Village in Busaba Sub-County, Butaleja District are mourning the death of a 21-year-old student of Alliance High School Busolwe who was discovered hanging from a tree early Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Opendi Donato, also known as Junior, was an S.3 student and a resident of Mulagi Parish in Butaleja District.
According to Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson Moses Johnson Mugwe, the body was discovered at about 6am by a villager heading to the garden.
“The resident immediately alerted family members and local leaders who later informed police,” Mugwe said.
Police from Busaba Police Station visited the scene and opened a case of suspected suicide by hanging.
Investigators reportedly recovered several items from the scene, including a rope, a suicide note, and the deceased’s Primary Leaving Examination results slip, which have since been taken as exhibits to aid investigations.
The body was later transferred to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem examination as inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
Police used the incident to call on members of the public, especially young people, to seek guidance and counseling whenever they face emotional or personal challenges.
“We encourage people to speak to responsible persons, leaders, or counselors whenever they are overwhelmed instead of resorting to taking their own lives,”
