Yesterday, Monday A journey meant to celebrate a safe return from pilgrimage ended in tragedy on Monday when a vehicle carrying members of the transport fraternity crashed shortly after leaving Entebbe International Airport, leaving four people dead and several others seriously injured.
The victims were part of a group that had traveled to the airport to welcome Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF) Chairman Hajji Rashid Ssekindi, who had just returned from the holy pilgrimage in Mecca.
Among those confirmed dead is the vehicle’s driver, Sam Kubalingira. Authorities had not yet identified the three other deceased victims by the time of publication.
Several survivors sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kiruddu Hospital in Kampala for treatment. Medical personnel are reportedly monitoring their condition as they receive emergency care.
The fatal accident abruptly turned what had been a joyous occasion into a scene of mourning, sending shockwaves through the transport community and among the families of those involved.

Police and other relevant authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the crash. Efforts are also underway to identify all the victims and notify their next of kin.
