Hundreds of boda boda riders from across Kampala on Sunday evening joined a coordinated mobilization drive organized by the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The flag-off event, led by Senior Presidential Advisor and ONC head Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye at the ONC headquarters in Kyambogo, focused on rallying grassroots support while emphasizing order and peaceful participation during the national event.
The riders, dressed in National Resistance Movement (NRM) colors, were equipped with reflector jackets, fuel facilitation, and campaign materials before embarking on a procession through different parts of Kampala. Organizers described the initiative as part of broader efforts to ensure strong public turnout for the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking to the riders, Namyalo called for discipline and responsible conduct, urging them to respect traffic regulations and promote unity throughout the celebrations.
She described the swearing-in ceremony as a symbol of political continuity and national stability, saying boda boda riders play a significant role in connecting with ordinary Ugandans across the city.
According to ONC officials, security agencies have coordinated with organizers to facilitate smooth movement for participants expected to attend the ceremony at Kololo.
The riders, representing associations from Kampala’s five divisions, expressed readiness to participate in the event, with several leaders praising the government for recognizing the contribution of the boda boda sector to urban transport and employment.
President Museveni is expected to take the oath of office on May 12 following his victory in the 2026 general elections. The ceremony is anticipated to attract regional leaders, diplomats, and guests from across Africa and beyond.
