Muhoozi Names God, Museveni and Kagame Among Those He Fears

Tensions Rise in Uganda as Leaders Clash Over Foreign Influence and Economic Stability

By Staff Reporter | September 9, 2026

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has named God, his parents and two senior regional figures among those he fears, in a personal statement that highlights the importance of faith, family and relationships in his public life. In a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, September 9, Muhoozi wrote: “People keep asking me what I fear; let me tell you.” He then listed God Almighty, his father, President Yoweri Museveni, his mother, Maama Janet, Gen. Salim Saleh and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame.

The statement was presented as a personal reflection rather than an announcement of a new government policy, military decision or diplomatic agreement. Its significance lies in the people Muhoozi chose to mention and the way he described his relationships with them.

A statement about faith and family

Muhoozi began his list with God, describing Him as “my creator.” He then turned to his parents, referring to Museveni as “Mzee Museveni” and Janet Museveni as “Maama Janet.” He also described Saleh as his uncle and Kagame as his “second uncle.”

The wording suggests that Muhoozi was expressing reverence and respect, rather than describing fear in a strictly physical or security-related sense. However, the post does not explain what he meant by each reference, and no further clarification was included in the available report.

The reference to his parents places the statement within the context of Muhoozi’s family background. He is the first-born son of Museveni and Janet Museveni and has become one of Uganda’s most prominent public figures through his military career and public commentary.

Muhoozi’s military position

Muhoozi is Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, the senior officer responsible for the country’s armed forces. He has held the position since March 2024, following a career that began in the late 1990s and included several command appointments.

His position gives his public statements particular attention, especially when they concern national leadership, regional security or senior political figures. Nevertheless, the September 9 post did not announce a military operation, a change in command or a new policy.

The statement also illustrates the personal dimension of Muhoozi’s public communication. He frequently uses X to comment on politics, regional affairs and matters of personal interest.

The significance of the regional references

The inclusion of Gen. Salim Saleh and President Paul Kagame adds a regional dimension to the statement.

Saleh, Museveni’s brother, is a senior Ugandan military figure and a close family relation of Muhoozi. Kagame, the president of Rwanda, is a prominent regional leader. By referring to both men as uncles, Muhoozi used family language to describe relationships that also have public and political significance.

The post itself does not establish the nature of any current official arrangement between Uganda and Rwanda, nor does it announce a new bilateral initiative. It is therefore important to distinguish Muhoozi’s personal wording from any claim about government policy or regional diplomacy.

A broader public context

Muhoozi’s public profile has developed at the intersection of military service, family and politics. His position as Chief of Defence Forces has made his statements relevant to national discussions, while his family ties to Museveni have remained a central part of his public identity.

His latest post offers a brief personal perspective rather than a detailed explanation of his views on leadership or authority. It does not discuss military strategy, Uganda’s political future or relations between Kampala and Kigali.

That distinction matters because statements by senior public officials can attract attention beyond their immediate wording. Readers may interpret references to family and regional leaders in different ways, but the available report does not provide evidence that Muhoozi intended to announce a change in policy or command.

What the statement does—and does not—say

The post clearly identifies five categories of people or figures Muhoozi says he fears: God, his father, his mother, Saleh and Kagame. It does not explain whether the word “fear” refers to religious reverence, respect for authority, personal affection or a combination of these meanings.

Nor does it provide details about any specific event that prompted the statement. The available report does not identify a speech, meeting, military development or diplomatic incident connected to the post.

As a result, the most accurate reading is that Muhoozi was sharing a personal reflection.

Why the post has attracted attention

The statement has drawn attention because of the senior positions held by the people Muhoozi mentioned. Museveni is Uganda’s president, while Kagame is Rwanda’s president. Saleh is also a senior Ugandan military figure and a member of the Museveni family.

For a senior military officer, such references can be read as an expression of personal values. At the same time, they may prompt public discussion about the relationship between family, military service and political authority.

The post does not, however, provide a basis for concluding that Muhoozi is announcing a new political position or making a formal statement about Uganda’s relations with Rwanda.

Conclusion

Muhoozi’s September 9 statement presents a personal account of the people he says he fears, beginning with God and extending to his parents and two senior regional figures. Its wording reflects the importance of faith, family and respect in his public expression.

While the post has attracted attention because of the prominence of those named, it contains no announcement of a new policy, military decision or diplomatic agreement. Its broader significance will depend on whether Muhoozi or other officials provide further context. For now, the statement is best understood as a personal reflection from one of Uganda’s most prominent public figures.
