BOMET, Kenya** — A family in Bomet County is mourning the tragic loss of a woman who was killed by a falling tree after stepping out to collect firewood during heavy rains and strong winds.

The incident occurred after the deceased had shared lunch with her family earlier in the day, in what would unknowingly become their final moments together.
According to her daughter, Cheptab Mososwoek, the family had spent the afternoon together before her mother left home to collect firewood she had previously purchased.
As the weather deteriorated, strong winds reportedly uprooted or broke a tree, which fell on the woman, killing her instantly.
Cheptab later paid tribute to her mother in an emotional social media post, recalling how an ordinary family meal had turned into their last shared memory.
She described the sudden loss as devastating, saying her family had no opportunity to bid their mother farewell.
The incident has drawn widespread sympathy on social media, with many Kenyans sending messages of condolence and support to the bereaved family. Others called for increased public awareness about the dangers of venturing outdoors during severe weather conditions.
The tragedy has also renewed concern over the risks posed by heavy rains and strong winds, particularly in rural communities where many households rely on firewood for cooking. Authorities have repeatedly advised the public to exercise caution during storms, as falling trees and weakened branches can pose a serious threat to life and property.
Funeral preparations are underway, with the family announcing that a fundraising meeting to support burial arrangements will be held on **July 31** at **Kapsir Village** in **Konoin Constituency, Bomet County**.
The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of extreme weather and the profound impact such tragedies have on families and communities. For Cheptab and her loved ones, the final meal they shared with their mother has become a cherished memory of a life cut
short far too soon.
