Jose Chameleone’s Son Abba Marcus Arrested in Minnesota as Domestic Assault Allegation Draws Attention

Abba Marcus Mayanja, the 20-year-old eldest son of Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone, was booked by police in Minnesota on August 14, 2026, over a misdemeanor domestic assault allegation, placing the young musician at the centre of renewed public attention surrounding his private life. The booking, reported by Ugandan media citing police information, lists bail or bond at $10,000, but publicly available records have not established whether the latest allegation involves his pregnant partner, Angel.

The development has attracted widespread attention in Uganda because Mayanja comes from one of the country’s best-known entertainment families and has himself pursued a music career in the United States under the stage name Marcus2Up.

However, the circumstances surrounding the August 14 arrest remain limited in the public record. A police booking notice identifies the matter as Domestic Assault – Misdemeanor and describes an allegation involving an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death. It does not provide a detailed account of what allegedly happened or publicly identify the complainant.

Mayanja remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Arrest brings renewed attention to relationship

The arrest comes after months of public discussion about Mayanja’s relationship with Angel, who has been identified in Ugandan entertainment reports as his pregnant girlfriend.

The couple had earlier announced that they were expecting a child. Their relationship subsequently became the subject of intense social-media discussion after Angel made allegations of physical abuse during pregnancy.

Mayanja denied those earlier allegations and described claims circulating about him as false, according to reports published at the time.

The latest booking has therefore reopened public interest in the relationship, although it is important to distinguish the earlier public accusations from the August arrest.

Available booking information does not establish that Angel was the complainant in the latest case. ChimpReports and AllAfrica, citing booking information, both noted that the circumstances of the arrest and identity of the complainant were not immediately clear.

That distinction is particularly important as the case moves through the American legal system.

Angel says she wants justice

Following the arrest, Angel used Instagram to respond to people who she said had been asking her to forgive Mayanja or questioning her account of their relationship.

In posts reported by Pulse Uganda, she alleged that she had experienced physical violence during pregnancy and said she intended to pursue justice rather than simply accept calls for reconciliation. The allegations remain allegations and have not been established in court.

Angel also criticised people she said had accused her of fabricating the dispute.

Her public statements have added another layer to a story that has increasingly unfolded through social media, where private relationship disputes involving prominent personalities can quickly become matters of public debate.

Yet social-media claims do not substitute for evidence presented in court. The latest criminal allegation will ultimately have to be addressed through the legal process rather than online exchanges.

What is known about the Minnesota case?

According to information reported by Ugandan media and distributed through AllAfrica, Mayanja was booked by the Edina Police Department on August 14, 2026.

The booking classified the matter as a misdemeanor domestic assault case. His bail or bond was listed at $10,000, equivalent to roughly Shs37 million based on the conversion reported by AllAfrica.

The available information does not provide a detailed police narrative explaining the events that allegedly led to the arrest.

That means several questions remain unanswered, including the precise circumstances of the alleged incident and whether the complainant is the same person who had previously made public allegations against Mayanja.

Those details are significant because earlier allegations and the current criminal case should not automatically be treated as the same incident.

As the legal proceedings continue, prosecutors would be required to establish the elements of any charge in court, while Mayanja has the right to challenge the allegations and present his defence.

Earlier allegations had already put the family in the spotlight

The latest arrest follows a turbulent period in Mayanja’s relationship with Angel.

In May 2026, reports emerged that Angel had accused him of physically assaulting her during a dispute while she was pregnant. Mayanja rejected the accusation.

The couple’s relationship subsequently remained a subject of online discussion, particularly after private material involving the two circulated on social media.

Pulse Uganda reported in August that Angel had also complained about the circulation of private material and criticised people for focusing on the couple’s personal affairs. The source of the material was not established in the report.

The episode illustrates the growing difficulty celebrities and their relatives face in maintaining privacy when personal disputes become intertwined with social-media audiences.

For Mayanja, that scrutiny is amplified by his family background.

Growing up in the shadow of a Ugandan music icon

Abba Marcus is the eldest son of Joseph Mayanja, better known as Jose Chameleone, one of Uganda’s most prominent musicians.

Chameleone has enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades and has remained an influential figure in Uganda’s music industry. His children have consequently grown up with considerable public interest in their lives.

Mayanja has attempted to establish an identity of his own through music. Reports indicate that he has lived in Minnesota for several years and graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 2023. He has also pursued music under the name Marcus2Up.

His position illustrates a familiar challenge for children of celebrities: building an independent career while attracting attention partly because of their family name.

The distinction can become particularly difficult when personal controversies become public.

Social media has changed the nature of celebrity disputes

The Mayanja case also reflects a broader transformation in Uganda’s entertainment culture.

In previous decades, celebrity controversies were largely mediated through radio, newspapers and television. Today, artists and their partners can address audiences directly through platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, X and Facebook.

That direct access can allow people involved in disputes to tell their side of a story without waiting for traditional media coverage.

But it can also create problems.

Claims can circulate thousands of times before journalists or authorities establish what actually happened. Private photographs and videos can be shared beyond their intended audience, while supporters of opposing personalities can quickly turn a personal dispute into a wider online confrontation.

In Mayanja’s case, both the relationship allegations and subsequent reactions have received significant attention because of the family’s prominence in Ugandan popular culture.

The situation demonstrates why responsible reporting remains important when allegations involve private relationships and potential criminal conduct.

The importance of separating allegations from established facts

The most important fact currently established by the available reporting is that Mayanja was booked by Edina Police in Minnesota on August 14 in connection with a misdemeanor domestic assault allegation.

What is not established from the publicly available booking information is precisely what happened during the incident, who made the complaint or whether the case is directly connected to the allegations previously made by Angel.

That distinction matters.

An arrest or booking does not amount to a conviction. Similarly, an allegation made on social media does not by itself establish criminal responsibility.

For readers following the case, subsequent court records or official statements from authorities may provide additional information as proceedings develop.

Until then, claims should be treated according to their evidentiary status.

What happens next?

The case is expected to proceed through the Minnesota legal system.

If prosecutors pursue the matter, Mayanja will have an opportunity to respond to the allegation in court. The prosecution will be required to prove the relevant elements of the charge according to the applicable legal standard.

His family has not, according to the available reports, issued a detailed public statement explaining the circumstances of the arrest.

The lack of a detailed official account also leaves room for further information to emerge as the legal process develops.

For the Ugandan entertainment industry, the case will likely continue to attract attention because of Mayanja’s family background and his emerging career.

For the individuals involved, however, the matter extends beyond celebrity gossip. It concerns allegations that could have serious personal and legal consequences.

A story bigger than celebrity gossip

The Abba Marcus case has quickly become a major entertainment talking point in Uganda, but it also highlights the risks of turning private disputes into online spectacles.

Celebrity status can magnify both accusations and denials. A statement posted to social media can reach an audience far beyond the people directly involved, sometimes before investigators, lawyers or courts have established the facts.

That makes accuracy especially important.

For now, the confirmed picture is relatively narrow: Mayanja was booked in Minnesota on August 14 over a misdemeanor domestic assault allegation, with bail listed at $10,000. Earlier in the year, his pregnant partner had publicly accused him of physical abuse, allegations he denied, but available booking information does not establish that the August case arose from those same allegations.

As the case progresses, court proceedings rather than social-media speculation will provide the clearest path to determining what happened.

For Mayanja, the immediate issue is no longer simply his place in Uganda’s celebrity culture. It is a legal matter that must now be addressed through due process.
