KAMPALA — The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, has launched the National Report on Countering Trafficking in Persons as Uganda joined the rest of the world in marking the **World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026**.
The commemoration brought together government officials, development partners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders committed to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable populations.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Kamuntu said the report highlights Uganda’s progress, challenges and ongoing efforts in preventing trafficking in persons, prosecuting offenders and protecting victims.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the legal and institutional framework to combat human trafficking, calling for greater collaboration among state agencies, communities and international partners.
The event was held under the global theme for **World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026**, which focuses on raising awareness about the crime and promoting coordinated action to prevent exploitation and support survivors.
Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of human trafficking, noting that collective action is essential in addressing the growing threat.
The annual commemoration serves as a platform to assess progress, strengthen partnerships and renew commitments to ending trafficking in persons both in Ugandaand globally.
