The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has launched a nationwide mobilisation drive for the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) LC1 elections, with Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo urging coordinators to focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots despite financial constraints.
Speaking during the flag-off of ONC coordinators in Kyambogo on Monday, Namyalo said the success of the NRM in the village-level elections will depend on disciplined mobilisation, effective monitoring of government programmes and continued engagement with communities across the country.
She called on coordinators to put the party’s ideology and service to wananchi ahead of personal interests, stressing that the ONC’s primary role is to consolidate support for the NRM while ensuring government programmes reach intended beneficiaries.
“Our responsibility is to mobilise, monitor and report. We must remain focused on strengthening the movement and ensuring that government programmes positively impact ordinary Ugandans,” Namyalo told the coordinators.
During her address, Namyalo acknowledged that the ONC is operating with limited financial resources. She explained that although the NRM Secretariat received funding to facilitate party activities, the ONC was not included in that allocation.
She said she later discussed the matter with President Yoweri Museveni, who informed her that the available funds had already been committed but agreed to provide additional support to enable the office to continue its work.
Namyalo thanked the President for what she described as his continued commitment to supporting the office and the broader NRM structure.
She further reminded coordinators that their responsibilities extend beyond election mobilisation to monitoring party chairperson elections, supervising the implementation of government programmes and submitting reports to the National Chairman to support informed decision-making.
Calling for unity ahead of the LC1 polls, Namyalo encouraged the coordinators to remain disciplined, committed and resilient despite challenges, saying grassroots leadership remains the foundation of the NRM’s organisational strength.
She also underscored the importance of accountability in public service, urging coordinators to ensure that government resources are properly utilised for the benefit of citizens.
As the NRM prepares for the village-level elections, the ONC says it will continue coordinating mobilisation activities across the country with the aim of strengthening the party’s grassroots structures and supporting effective implementation of government programmes.
