KAMPALA —Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced a series of strategic transfers and appointments involving senior officers in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The changes, which take effect immediately, affect key command positions within the military, including the Reserve Forces, Land Forces and two infantry divisions.
Under the new arrangements, Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) Reserve Forces, replacing Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany, who is due to retire.
Maj Gen Felix Busizoori has been appointed Deputy Commander of Land Forces, while Maj Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma takes over as Commander of the 4 Infantry Division.
Brig Gen Micheal Hyeroba has also been appointed Commander of the 3 Infantry Division.
The appointments were announced as part of changes to the senior command structure of the UPDF.
#New Reserve Forces commander
Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga will take charge of the UPDF Reserve Forces following the impending retirement of Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany.
The Reserve Forces form an important component of the military establishment, providing a pool of trained personnel who can support the regular forces when required.

Brig Gen Micheal Hyeroba, meanwhile, has been appointed Commander of the 3 Infantry Division.

The appointment of Ssemwanga as commander of the Reserve Forces follows the expected retirement of Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany.
Senior military officers normally leave active service after reaching the applicable retirement requirements, with changes in command allowing the institution to maintain continuity in its operations.
