KAMPALA** — The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has conducted a follow-up visit to assess the progress of a Katwe-based single mother who recently received support under its empowerment programme.
ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye visited the home of Kyomugisha Babra to evaluate how the assistance extended to her family has improved their living conditions and livelihood.
Namyalo first met Kyomugisha while monitoring the display of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) village committee voters’ registers ahead of the forthcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections. During the interaction, the single mother shared the challenges she faced in providing for her children.
Kyomugisha had earlier attracted public attention after a video showing the difficult conditions in which she and her children were living circulated on social media.
She explained that she had no reliable source of income and struggled to provide food, pay school fees and meet other basic household needs, leaving her children at risk of dropping out of school.
Following the encounter, Namyalo provided startup capital to enable Kyomugisha to establish a small business as a means of generating a sustainable income.
The ONC also rented a self-contained house for the family for one year after finding them living in inadequate shelter. The house was equipped with basic household necessities, including a mattress, blankets, clothing and food supplies.
During the follow-up visit, Namyalo encouraged Kyomugisha to use the business capital effectively to improve her family’s long-term welfare and achieve financial independence.
Kyomugisha thanked the ONC for the support, saying it had transformed her family’s circumstances and restored hope after months of hardship.
She said the assistance had provided her children with a safer home and renewed confidence in their future.
The intervention forms part of the Office of the National Chairman’s broader programme aimed at supporting vulnerable households through humanitarian assistance and economic empowerment.
According to the ONC, the initiative seeks to help disadvantaged families become self-reliant by combining immediate relief with income-generating opportunities that can improve their livelihoods over the long term.
