KAMPALA** — A video circulating on social media has sparked public concern after alleging that some bags of Tororo Cement weigh significantly less than the standard 50 kilograms.
In the footage, an unidentified man is seen weighing several cement bags using a scale, with the readings allegedly ranging between 40 and 42 kilograms. The man claims the bags were randomly selected from a newly delivered consignment and that none met the stated 50-kilogram weight.

The video alleges that the apparent weight discrepancy could have serious implications for Uganda’s construction industry, arguing that contractors and homeowners may unknowingly use less cement than required for construction projects.
It further claims that consumers could be losing approximately 10 kilograms of cement per bag if the allegations are confirmed, potentially resulting in financial losses and raising concerns over compliance with product standards.
The footage has generated widespread discussion on social media, with many Ugandans calling on the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and other relevant authorities to investigate the claims and establish whether the cement bags comply with national quality and weight requirements.
Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Asan Kasingye also commented on the matter through his X (formerly Twitter) account, describing the allegations as potentially significant for Uganda’s construction sector and urging the relevant authorities to establish the facts.
By the time of publication, Tororo Cement had not issued a public statement responding to the allegations contained in the circulating video.
The authenticity of the video and the claims it contains had not been independently verified.
Authorities are expected to conduct the necessary inspections and tests to determine whether the allegations have merit. Until then, the claims remain unverified and should be treated as allegations pending the outcome of official investigations.
