President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Rt. Hon. Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa upon their election, while also commending Members of Parliament for conducting the voting process peacefully and transparently.
Museveni praised the MPs for fulfilling their constitutional mandate in a calm and orderly manner, describing the exercise as a reflection of democratic maturity within Parliament.
He noted that the NRM candidates secured more votes than the official number of NRM legislators in the House, an indication of wider support beyond the ruling party ranks. At the same time, the President acknowledged the influence of opposition ally Norbert Mao, whose backing attracted some votes away from the NRM side.
Museveni said the matter would be addressed internally, emphasizing the importance of cohesion and cooperation within Parliament to ensure better service delivery to Ugandans.
According to the President, the priority now is to build a more united Parliament capable of advancing national interests and supporting government programs effectively.
