Hundreds of residents in Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth’s constituency are expected to improve their livelihoods following the distribution of wealth-creation items by the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC).
The empowerment exercise, led by ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, provided beneficiaries with practical tools intended to help them start or expand small businesses, creating new opportunities for income generation and self-employment.
The support forms part of the ONC’s ongoing nationwide poverty alleviation campaign, which seeks to equip communities with resources that can foster economic independence and improve household incomes.
Beneficiaries received a range of items, including sewing machines, salon equipment, brick-making machines and agricultural inputs. Many residents welcomed the intervention, saying the tools would enable them to engage in productive economic activities and support their families.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony for State Minister for Agriculture Desire Muhooza at Sheraton Hotel on Monday, Speaker Oboth-Oboth acknowledged the impact of the programme on local communities. He noted that the items distributed would help many families establish sustainable sources of income and reduce dependence on handouts.
For years, Namyalo has overseen the distribution of self-help and income-generating tools across the country under the guidance of President Yoweri Museveni, whose wealth-creation agenda emphasizes household income generation as a pathway out of poverty.
The initiative has particularly targeted youth, women and vulnerable groups, providing them with practical resources to participate in entrepreneurship and community development. Across the country, beneficiaries of the programme have reported improved livelihoods after utilizing the support to launch or grow small enterprises.
As the programme continues to reach more communities, it remains a central component of government efforts to promote self-reliance, create employment opportunities and strengthen grassroots economic transformation.
