A cloud of grief hangs over Nansana West IA following the brutal killing of a recent Makerere University graduate whose promising future was cut short in a suspected robbery attack.
Danis Bukenya, 30, had recently completed his studies at Makerere University and was looking forward to beginning his professional career. While searching for employment opportunities, he managed businesses established with support from his parents, who hoped the ventures would keep him productive as he transitioned into the job market.
Those hopes were shattered when unknown assailants reportedly attacked Bukenya at his home during the night, inflicting fatal head injuries before setting the house ablaze in what investigators believe may have been an attempt to destroy evidence.
Residents were alerted by smoke rising from the house and rushed to help extinguish the flames. However, upon entering the building, they discovered Bukenya lying unconscious with severe wounds to his head. Despite efforts to rescue him, he had already succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has left family members devastated. Bukenya’s parents, Jackson Musisi Yiga and Lydia Namutebi, described their son as hardworking, ambitious and determined to build a successful future after university.
According to local leaders, Bukenya was widely respected within the community and had no known disputes with anyone. In addition to running two retail shops, he also operated a mobile money business, leading authorities to suspect that the attackers may have been targeting cash proceeds from his enterprises.
The murder has sparked concern among residents, who are now calling for stronger security measures to protect homes and businesses in the area. Community leaders have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Police have launched investigations into the killing and deployed a sniffer dog to assist in tracking possible suspects. However, investigators noted that the large number of people who gathered at the scene while trying to extinguish the fire may have compromised crucial evidence.
Bukenya’s body was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination as detectives continue their search for those responsible.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that investigations are ongoing and appealed to the public for information that could help identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
As detectives work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack, residents and family members are left mourning a young graduate whose life appeared full of promise but ended in a
shocking act of violence.
