NJERU — Traffic Police have intercepted seven public service vehicle (PSV) buses at the Njeru checkpoint for allegedly violating the conditions of their approved route charts.
According to police, one of the drivers was found operating on a route different from the one authorised, while six others allegedly breached the stipulated travel schedules by arriving at the checkpoint earlier than the times indicated on their route charts.
The drivers have since been charged with the respective traffic offences and are expected to appear before court to answer the charges.
Police said the enforcement operation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, regulate public transport operations and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Authorities reminded bus operators that route charts are issued to regulate travel routes and departure schedules, with the aim of promoting orderly public transport services and reducing road safety risks.
Traffic Police warned that all PSV drivers and bus owners must strictly adhere to the conditions attached to their route charts, noting that any deviations will attract enforcement action, including prosecution.
The latest operation is part of a broader nationwide crackdown on traffic violations as police intensify efforts to improve compliance with road safety regulations and protect passengers.
