VIHIGA: Grief has engulfed the Kaveye Girls High School community after a Form Three student was among three learners killed in a road accident while travelling home for the school holidays.
The student, identified as Gabrielle, died on the night of July 30, 2026, when the matatu she was travelling in was reportedly hit from behind by a trailer. Two other students who were in the same vehicle also lost their lives in the crash.
The tragic incident occurred shortly after schools closed for the end of the academic term, as students across the country travelled to reunite with their families.
News of the accident spread quickly, plunging the school community into mourning. Teachers, students, parents and residents expressed shock and sorrow over the deaths, with many sending messages of condolence to the bereaved families.
Gabrielle was remembered as a bright, disciplined and compassionate student whose academic excellence and leadership earned her the admiration of both teachers and classmates.
