Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested a security guard in connection with the fatal stabbing of a male hawker at BMK Plaza in the city centre.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on 10 July 2026 on the ground floor of the commercial building. Police say the victim died at the scene after allegedly being stabbed during an altercation.
According to preliminary investigations, the confrontation began after the hawker was reportedly asked to leave the premises by a security guard. The disagreement escalated into violence, resulting in the hawker sustaining a stab wound to the chest.
The suspect has been identified as Ian Mugisha, a security guard attached to Security 2000. He was arrested immediately after the incident and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Officers recovered the suspected murder weapon from the scene, while the deceased’s body was transferred to the KCCA City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Police have not yet established the identity of the victim.
Kampala Metropolitan Police say detectives are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
