The media entrepreneur has praised Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga for his support and commended the university’s digital learning model for enabling him to balance work and postgraduate studies.
KAMPALA— Swift News Chief Executive Officer Frank Kamuntu, popularly known as Mr Swift, has graduated with a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Victoria University, marking another milestone in his academic and professional journey.
Kamuntu received the qualification during the university’s 10th Graduation Ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala on October 19 and 20, 2026.
A journalist and media entrepreneur, Kamuntu has built his career around news reporting, digital publishing and technology. His latest qualification reflects his commitment to further education while pursuing his professional ambitions.
Having obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2024, Kamuntu said he had resolved to continue studying rather than settle for his first university qualification. Two years later, he has fulfilled that ambition by earning a master’s degree in the same field.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Kamuntu acknowledged that balancing postgraduate studies with professional responsibilities was challenging but said support from people around him helped him complete the programme.
#Kamuntu praises Prof. Muganga
Kamuntu reserved special praise for Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga, whom he described as a father figure and an important source of inspiration throughout his studies.
“Truth be told, my hero in this journey has been Dr. Lawrence Muganga. To me, he is a father and my superhero. Sometimes I just sit and think about how much he embraced and loved me, and I run out of words,” Kamuntu said.
He commended Muganga for fostering an environment in which students feel supported and encouraged to pursue their ambitions.
According to Kamuntu, the Vice Chancellor’s personal encouragement made a lasting difference in his academic journey and strengthened his determination to complete his studies.
He also thanked his lecturers, singling out his research supervisor, Dr. Adnan Adikata, for his guidance, patience and support during the dissertation process.
Kamuntu described research as one of the demanding stages of postgraduate education, saying his supervisor helped him refine his work and remain focused on completing the programme.
#Digital learning helps balance work and studies
Kamuntu also praised Victoria University’s digital learning model, saying its online delivery of lectures, coursework and examinations enabled him to pursue his master’s degree without significantly disrupting his professional responsibilities.
He said the flexibility to study from different locations was particularly valuable given the demands of running a media business.
The experience, he said, demonstrated how technology can expand access to higher education for working professionals and other learners who need to balance academic commitments with employment and family responsibilities.
Kamuntu urged prospective university students to consider institutions that combine academic training with practical skills relevant to the changing demands of the labour market.
He said higher education should equip learners with the creativity, adaptability and professional competencies needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive economy.
#Urges young people to embrace lifelong learning
Beyond celebrating his achievement, Kamuntu encouraged young people, particularly members of Generation Z, to continue pursuing education and professional development.
“Graduation is not the end of learning; it is the beginning of a greater journey. Keep pursuing further studies, because every new qualification expands your knowledge, sharpens your skills and opens doors to opportunities you never imagined. Never stop learning, because your future will be shaped by what you continue to learn today,” he said.
He emphasised that academic qualifications should be accompanied by practical abilities that enable graduates to respond to changing workplace demands.
Kamuntu said young people should assess universities not only on the qualifications they offer but also on their ability to prepare students for real-world challenges.
#Plans further studies in technology
Kamuntu disclosed that he intends to continue with his academic journey, with plans to pursue another qualification in a different field, most likely technology.
The proposed move would complement his work at Swift Technologyz, a company involved in website development, design, hosting and other digital solutions.
He said further studies in technology would help him strengthen his technical knowledge and explore opportunities at the intersection of media, digital publishing and software development.
As journalism increasingly embraces digital platforms and emerging technologies, Kamuntu’s interest in combining media experience with technical expertise reflects the growing relationship between communication and innovation.
His graduation marks the latest step in a career that combines journalism, entrepreneurship and digital technology, while his plans for further education signal his intention to continue expanding his professional skills.
For Kamuntu, the master’s degree is not the end of his academic journey but another foundation for future growth.
