KAMPALA — Next Media Services has completed the acquisition of Capital Radio 2015 Limited, bringing Capital FM, Beat FM and KIIS 100.9 FM under its ownership in one of the biggest developments in Uganda’s media industry.
The transaction marks a significant expansion of Next Media’s broadcasting portfolio, strengthening its presence across television, radio and digital media platforms.
According to company registration records, Next Media Services acquired 1,417 shares, representing 70.01 per cent of Capital Radio 2015 Limited, while Next Media Chief Executive Officer Kin Kariisa acquired the remaining 607 shares, equivalent to 29.99 per cent, giving the company full ownership of the broadcaster.
The acquisition follows an announcement made on June 23, 2026, in which the two media houses unveiled what was described as a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening advertising, content sharing and cross-platform engagement while maintaining editorial independence.
However, the arrangement has since culminated in a full acquisition, bringing Capital FM and its sister stations into the Next Media network.
Industry sources estimate the transaction to be worth approximately Shs12 billion, covering Capital Radio’s broadcasting infrastructure, frequency licences and brand assets. The value of the deal has not been officially confirmed by either party.
The acquisition further expands Next Media’s footprint in Uganda’s media sector, where it already operates NBS Television, Sanyuka Television, Afro Mobile and several digital media platforms.
Media analysts say the transaction is likely to reshape Uganda’s broadcasting landscape by creating one of the country’s largest multimedia organisations with an expanded audience reach across television, radio and digital platforms.
The development has also sparked debate among industry observers over increased media consolidation, competition within the advertising market and the future independence of established media brands.
When contacted for comment, Next Media did not provide additional details beyond its earlier public communication on the partnership.
Further information regarding the integration of the radio stations, management structure, staffing and any regulatory approvals is expected in the coming days.
